The .setWindowTitle call at the end of the __init__ block changes the window title and triggers the .windowTitleChanged signal, which emits the new window title as a str. We’ve attached a series of intermediate slot functions (as lambda functions) which modify this signal and then call our custom slots with different parameters.

The intermediate functions can be as simple or as complicated as you like -- as well as discarding/adding parameters, you can also perform lookups to modify signals to different values.

In this example we’ve connected the .stateChange signal to result in two ways -- a) with a intermediate function which calls the .result method with True or False depending on the signal parameter, and b) with a dictionary lookup within an intermediate lambda.
Running this code will output True or False to the command line each time the state is changed (once for each time we connect to the signal).

One of the most common reasons for wanting to connect signals in this way is when you’re building a series of objects and connecting signals programmatically in a loop. Unfortunately then things aren’t always so simple.
If you try and construct intercepted signals while looping over a variable, and want to pass the loop variable to the receiving slot, you’ll hit a problem. For example, in the following code we create a series of buttons, and use a intermediate function to pass the buttons value (0-9) with the pressed signal.

If you run this you’ll see the problem -- no matter which button you click on you get the same number (9) shown on the label. Why 9? It’s the last value of the loop.

We are not passing the value of a when the button is created, but whatever value a has when the signal fires. Since the signal fires after the loop is completed -- we interact with the UI after it is created -- the value of a for every signal is the final value that a had in the loop: 9.
So clicking any of them will send 9 to button_pressed
The solution is to pass the value in as a (re-)named parameter. This binds the parameter to the value of a at that point in the loop, creating a new, un-connected variable. The loop continues, but the bound variable is not altered.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Connecticut House of Representatives passed a package of bills that would ultimately allow a third casino to be built in East Windsor. The Connecticut Mirror reports that the bill passed in a lopsided vote of 103-46.

A plan for a third casino in Connecticut that would have made sense for all parties was on the table and apparently had support at the highest levels. Then it all fell apart. It’s as apt a stand-in for state politics in 2019 as is likely to be found. 2020 is an election year, and that could influence support for a third casino, as well as sports betting. All 36 seats of the Connecticut State Senate will be up for vote, as will the 151 seats in.
The two-bill package would create an entertainment sharing agreement between the state’s two federally recognized tribes, the Mashantucket Pequot and the Mohegan, and several entertainment venues around the state.

“I think there are some constitutional issues that might come with this casino being put into East Windsor. That is to be adjudicated by the courts. But I think a lot of the research I have done, the meetings I have had across the district, have assured me that this facility would bring a benefit to the Town of East Windsor ultimately.”
The House bills contain additional provisions that were not in a similar bill that passed in the Senate. So they’ll have to be approved by the Senate before they can get to the governor’s desk for his signature.
The Mashantucket Pequot and the Mohegan want to build the East Windsor facility to compete with a $950 million casino being built by MGM in nearby Springfield, Massachusetts.
The operators of the MGM casino say the state violated federal law by not allowing bids from other parties for the state’s first commercial gaming license. They promise to fight in the courts.
As one of only two towns remaining to be chosen as a site for a third casino in Connecticut, East Windsor is hoping they will be the chosen one.
When a casino is built from scratch, it brings about a great deal of revenue to an area. A casino project is usually a massive scale, meaning it will cost hundreds of millions of dollars to create. Such projects brings jobs to the chosen area as well as the potential for increased revenues via tourism. For most people, a gaming venue coming to the local area is a win/win. Officials of East Windsor are open to the potential that a new casino venue can bring. Officials know that a new casino in the state will be a big deal and there will be job as well as revenue opportunity. First Selectman of East Windsor, Bob Maynard, stated that the area is open to tax revenue and jobs. He considers the casino to be more of an entertainment facility instead of a casino.
The site that is currently being considered in East Windsor is where the Showcase Cinema is, a now vacant movie theater. There is also a vacant retail store being considered that was once home to Walmart. A new gaming venue would need to be strategically placed to attract customers as well as in an area large enough to house the facility as well as parking and all the extras that go along with the plans.
The site is actually close to Interstate 91 and is close as it can be to the heart of East Windsor. Maynard stated that the town prides themselves on the rural charm of the area but they also know the value of the gaming venue’s potential. According to Brown, the towns are now recognizing what they can receive from a gaming venue being placed in their area. The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot have been working together to find a spot for the casino for more than a year now. It has been two years since the tribes have been trying to create a third casino in the state. Brown stated that people are realizing that tax dollars, jobs, improvements to services and more in the local community will take place if the venue is placed in their town. There are many good things to come and both communities want to be a part of it.
Next week, the chairmen of both tribes will be meeting with residents of East Windsor in a town hall setting to discuss any questions the townspeople may have about the casino development. According to Maynard, he believes that the East Windsor elected leaders are in favor of a gaming venue and that land is ready to be developed with little intervention by the local government.
